Tips on How to Care for Inflamed Gums

Posted .

Are you searching for a way to relieve your inflamed and swollen gums? If so, you have come to the right blog! Our dentist, Dr. Nichols and Cronkrite, has the tips you need.

Now, because inflamed gums are a symptom of gum disease (along with many other causes), it’s best to begin relieving your discomfort by calling our dental office and scheduling an appointment. That way our dental team can make sure everything is OK. Until your appointment, there are a few things you can do, like:

-Brush your teeth gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. The key word here is “gently” because a vigorous brushing routine could cause your swollen gums. Make sure to brush twice a day (every morning and night).

-Floss your teeth daily and be careful not to force the dental floss between your teeth. This is important because forcing the floss can harm the gums, which might be the cause of the inflammation. Flossing can also help you remove the harmful substances that could be bothering your gums.

-Rinse daily with antibacterial mouthwash. Doing so can further clean your mouth and kill the bacteria in your mouth that might be causing the swelling.
